Nonlinear Virtual Inertia Control of WTGs for Enhancing Primary Frequency Response and Suppressing Drivetrain Torsional Oscillations

Virtual inertia controllers (VICs) for wind turbine generators (WTGs) have been recently developed to compensate the reduction of in power systems. However, VICs can induce drivetrain torsional oscillations WTGs. This paper addresses this issue and develops a novel nonlinear VIC based on objective holographic feedback theory definition completely controllable system Brunovsky type. Simulation results under various scenarios demonstrate that proposed technique outperforms existing terms enhancement frequency nadir, suppression WTG oscillations, fast smooth recovery rotor speed original maximum point (MPP) before disturbance as well preventing secondary dip caused by traditional VIC. The is also able adaptively coordinate multiple WTGs enhance support dynamic performance each WTG.
